Friday, October 11th, 2019
Georgia Southern University’s Center for Sustainability is gearing up for its seventh annual GreenFest, set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 5, in downtown Statesboro.
The event, which brings town and gown together, will showcase all that the region has to offer for sustainable living. More than 40 vendors and exhibitors will share sustainability information and green products to encourage a green lifestyle with dozens of activity stations.
Festival-goers can enjoy live music from the School of Rock, sustainability workshops, children’s activities and more. Statesboro’s first Repair Café will be on site to assist with repairs to zippers, leather straps, wooden chairs, lamps and electronic screens. Goodwill and Dell will collect electronics that are beyond repair for recycling (except for tube TVs). Items can be dropped off at the corner of Siebald and Courtland Streets.
Guests will be able to participate in make-and-take stations creating DIY beeswax wraps and mouthwash. Bring your own T-shirt to craft a DIY T-shirt tote and tie-dyed cloth napkins, while supplies last. Educational booths will be there to provide information about green energy, product life cycles, honey bees and more.
The weekly Statesboro Mainstreet Farmers Market will also offer festival visitors fresh local produce, baked goods, a food preservation workshop and more.
The activities this year will extend down East Main Street with the street closed from North Main to Railroad Street for the festival. Festival-goers can park on East Vine and in parking lots on Railroad and Courtland Streets.
Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful is hosting Clean up the Boro throughout the city. Pre-register online or check-in on East Main in front of the Mainstreet Farmers Market to participate.
The goal of GreenFest is to educate the public about sustainable solutions throughout the community and to share green resources and eco-friendly ideas in an outdoor festival atmosphere.
Shuttle services to the farmers market and festival will be offered for Georgia Southern students living on campus and will depart from the University Villas Clubhouse at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
