Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, October 14th, 2019

The Port Wentworth Chamber of Commerce’s 10th Annual Oyster Roast, BBQ and Music Festival is set for Saturday Nov. 9, 2019. The festival will be held from 12-7 p.m. at the City Hall festival and fairgrounds located at 7224 GA Highway 21 in Port Wentworth. The event is sponsored by the City of Port Wentworth.

Admission is free, and attendees can expect to enjoy a plethora of entertainment options and activities. The celebration will feature live music, food booths, craft and business vendors, two oyster tents, a beer tent, a military appreciation tent – staffed by Boy Scout Troop #665 – and a children’s area with inflatables, rides and other attractions.

This year’s musical guests are Lance Stinson, Missionary Blues and Gary Byrd. The festival will commence at noon, and the oyster tent will open at 1 p.m., serving steamed oysters by the bucket until they run out. There will also be other food and drink vendors to provide many dining options. The afternoon will continue with lively entertainment on the main stage.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 10 years of bringing the community together with a free, family-friendly event that everyone can enjoy,” said Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Trisha Growe. “We would like to thank our sponsors, especially the City of Port Wentworth, for their support and for helping put together this event, where we welcome everyone and showcase our awesome community.”

The festival began in 2009 as an event mostly for chamber members, but quickly grew in popularity and began to expand. Within a couple years, it had outgrown its venue at the Lions Club Ballpark and relocated to accommodate bigger crowds. This year’s event is expected to be the largest yet, and organizers have been putting all the pieces in place for months, working hard to ensure another successful festival.
