Bryan County Emergency Services recently was awarded a grant of $619,480 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant organization. The group focuses primarily on enhancing the safety of firefighters and the public by funding resources that are critical in equipping and training emergency personnel. AFG has been providing first responders and firefighters with equipment needs, emergency vehicles, training and resources for both the public and emergency personnel since 2001.

This grant will be used by Bryan County Emergency Services to replace outdated self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA) on all fire and EMS vehicles.

“The SCBA are the air packs that the firefighters must have and use to fight fires and enter areas where fresh air is scarce or laced with smoke, which is immediately life-threatening and dangerous to long-term health,” Bryan County EMS Deputy Chief Michael Dick said.  

Bryan County Emergency Services delivers a full range of emergency services, including fire prevention and education, emergency medical services and fire suppression to over 30,000 citizens and covers over 450 square miles.
