Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people age successfully, was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Ann Katherine Spear Humanitarian Foundation. The grant will allow the organization to expand the adult day health services in Liberty County from three days a week to five.

“While we gratefully received this grant from the Ann Katherine Spear Humanitarian Foundation, the true beneficiaries are the clients and caregivers in Liberty County,” said Patti Lyons, president of SCI. “Whether their need is short- or long-term, this generous grant will allow us to meet those needs.”

The Foundation exists to support organizations that provide for the care, welfare, and health of elderly women. Ann Katherine Spear, who was a resident of Cobb County, Ga., created the Foundation as part of her will upon her death in 1999.

SCI’s Adult Day Health Center in Liberty County provides a safe and engaging environment for adults with cognitive, developmental, or physical impairments. The program specializes in serving those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia who require assistance and supervision throughout the day. This program helps delay or eliminate the need for placement outside of the home and offers respite to caregivers.
