Union Mission is raising funds for Giving Tuesday during the entire month of November through December 3rd to remodel 4 bathrooms at The Magdalene Project, a 20-bed emergency shelter for homeless women and their children.

Getting kids ready for school can be stressful; imagine sharing a space with 5 other mothers and 12 children. For these families, basic day-to-day activities like bathing children at night should be the least of their worries. Union Mission’s goal is to raise $8,000 through their Giving Tuesday campaign to better serve the clients who utilize these facilities.

Union Mission clients can stay at The Magdalene Project for a period of up to 90-days with a primary focus on providing basic human needs to include: shelter, food, clothing, transportation, mental health counseling, and employment services as well as community referrals that will further support their ability to become more independent. The shelter program provides these mothers with a stable environment and the supportive services necessary to be successful in supporting their families.

Over the past 5 years alone, The Magdalene Project at Union Mission has served 370 homeless children and 240 of them were school age at the time of entry.

“If not for the Magdalene Project, many of these families would have been living throughout the city doubled up with family or friends, in uninhabitable spaces, cars or homeless camps, increasing their exposure to environmental dangers and academic instability” said Union Mission Executive Director, Patricia Youngquist. “Union Mission has a big goal this year however we want to help better accommodate these families who are trying to leave homelessness behind.”
