Rendezvous Property Management, a full-service vacation rental company based in downtown Savannah, Ga., is pleased to announce the exclusive revitalization and launch of The Barracks. A National Register Landmark, The Barracks was recently given new life and reimagined into seven, luxurious vacation rental units offering guests a rare opportunity to experience a piece of history and an iconic destination that helped shape our present.

Located at 15 Meddin Dr. on Tybee Island, Ga., The Barracks (Building No. 76) is a colonial revival military structure originally built in 1910 for enlisted men who served at Fort Screven. Established in 1898, Fort Screven was designed to guard the mouth of the Savannah River and in continuous use from the Spanish-American War through both World Wars before being declared surplus by the War Department and acquired by the town of Savannah Beach (City of Tybee Island) in 1945. The Barracks (No. 76) is the last surviving barracks of Fort Screven.

“The preservation of this property was a special and meaningful undertaking,” said Sarah Ward, president of Ward Architecture + Preservation. “Locals, historians, and the City of Tybee all agreed and appreciated the significance of saving the last surviving barracks of Fort Screven, especially whose origin was from a time of such dramatic change in the U.S. Collaboration with the Tybee Island Historical Society allowed us to preserve and reconstruct historic features that had been lost, returning the building to a near original appearance.”

Under the management of Rendezvous Property Management, The Barracks features seven distinct units, bright and airy in design and fashioned after today’s popular and family-friendly open-living concept. With salvaged materials and historic accents incorporated from the original structure, guests will enjoy the nod to its past with modern aesthetics and functionality throughout the living spaces, offering both luxury and down-to-earth comfort. Units range in square footage with its largest space accommodating up to 11 guests. The Barracks can be rented individually for a nightly rate (minimum three-night stay) or the entire complex for a special group rate upon request to accommodate large parties.

Surrounded by Live Oaks and palm trees, the grounds of The Barracks (No. 76) lies within one of Tybee Island’s most exclusive and sought-after neighborhoods. More than a dozen historical structures remain nearby and along Meddin Ave. including the Tybee Island Guard House and Tybee Island Light Station and Museum. Guests are a quick bike ride away from the beachfront and some of the East Coast’s tastiest seafood restaurants including Sundae Cafe, The Deck, North Beach Bar & Grill, A-J’s Dockside, and more.
