Billy Hair will be making his formal announcement to run for Chatham County Commission Chairman, a position he previously held for eight years, on Friday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. in Wright Square in front of the Old Chatham County Courthouse located on Bull Street. All media and supporters are invited to attend.

During Hair’s two terms as Chairman from 1996 to 2004, Chatham County prospered with unprecedented growth with a commission that was united and harmonious. Hair pledges to bring this same kind of experienced leadership to all of Chatham County for the next four years as Chairman, ultimately making a positive, lasting impact for years to follow.

Hair holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in business from the University of South Carolina, as well as a doctorate degree in education from the University of Georgia, preparing him with the skills to run a local government with over 1,600 employees and a budget in excess of $230,000,000. He is also a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army and Vietnam where he earned two Army Commendation Medals, an Air Medal, and a Bronze Star. In a community where over 40% of the population has a direct or indirect association with the military, this gives Hair an appreciation and understanding of this vital part of the Chatham County community.
