Greenbriar Children's Center to Postpone Skidaway Island Events

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, March 20th, 2020

Due to the growing concern about the threat of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), Greenbriar Children’s Center announces the postponement of two events at Skidaway Island: the special screening of No Small Matter originally scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, April 13 and the Charity Bocce Ball Tournament originally scheduled for 9 a.m.-12 noon Friday, March 27. These dates fall within the eight-week window of recommended cancellation of events for 50 people or more, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

With the increasing need for social isolation and the desire to keep everyone safe, Greenbriar has chosen to reschedule the presentation and tournament and the new dates will be announced in due course.

“We have taken this decision to ensure that our patrons, supporters, and Savannahians are safe and well during this time and must do what we can to protect them, especially those in our community who are over 60 and those with compromised immune systems,” said Greenbriar Board President, Melissa Emery. “We remain committed to fulfilling our mission of promoting the healthy development of children and the strengthening of families.”

Greenbriar Children’s Center is a nonprofit organization that provides services including emergency shelter, independent living, family preservation, early childhood education and care, and Project Safe Place.
