The Associated General Contractors of America recently announced JTVS Builders, Inc. as the winner of the Construction Risk Partners Build America Award in the New Building Construction (under $10 million) category for their work on Starland Yard in Savannah, Georgia. The award was presented during the AGC Annual Convention on March 10th, 2020, in Las Vegas, NV, to JTVS Builders' Project Director, Billy McIntosh, and Starland Yard's co-owner and Principal at
Development Associates, Inc., Guy Davidson.

The Construction Risk Partners Build America Awards highlight the nation’s most significant construction projects. A panel of judges, representing all areas of construction, evaluated an impressive number of submissions this year, assessing each project’s complexity, use of innovative construction techniques and client satisfaction, among other criteria. The awards, which were announced during the association’s annual convention in Las Vegas, are considered by many to be the most prestigious recognition of construction accomplishments in the U.S.

“These awards put a spotlight on some of the toughest, most innovative and successful projects completed during the past year,” said Dirk Elsperman, the association’s president and executive vice president and chief operating officer of Tarlton Corp. in St. Louis, Mo. “The winning firms are helping elevate the overall quality of construction in this country.”

In a recent statement released by the AGC, they stated “Savannah’s Starland Yard was among the most significant construction projects of 2020, the Associated General Contractors of America.... As a result, the project’s contractor, JTVS Builders, Inc. received the association’s Construction Risk Partners Build America Award for a new building project under $10 million.”

"It was a great honor to be recognized for our work on Starland Yard. The sensitivity and care to the implementation of the project would not have been possible without the professionalism and dedication of local partnerships, including the developer, the architectural firm, the structural engineering firm, and highly experienced local subcontractors," says Principal of JTVS Builders, Inc. Jimmy Smith.

Starland Yard is Savannah's first food truck park addressing the need for a permanent and defined locale of food, beverage, music, and culture for the entire community. Comprising over 20 upcycled shipping containers that have been cut, stacked, and placed end-to-end, this family-friendly oasis features rotating food trucks, a full-service bar, a Neapolitan pizzeria, a rooftop and courtyard for special events, play areas, and on-site parking. Situated in the historic Starland District of Savannah, Starland Yard pays homage to Savannah's port economy by
transforming a once-vacant lot into a thriving community hub. Through the use of innovative design and construction, this project brought a new and revitalized look to the Savannah area.

Co-owner and developer of Starland Yard, Guy Davidson, states, "This was an incredible project to bring to Savannah, and we could not have had a better team working on it. JTVS Builders set the bar for innovative construction, client service, safety, and project management. This is a well-deserved award."

Starland Yard was designed by architectural firm Lominack Kolman Smith Architects and included other award-winning design team members such as Tharpe Engineering Group, Dulohery Weeks, Remark Studio, and Maupin Engineering, Inc.
