Local IT services provider Infinity, Inc., recently announced that Savannah Early College High School graduate Nigel Smith received their annual $2000 scholarship for the 2020 graduation year. The scholarship, which was created in 2019 as part of the company’s 20th anniversary celebration, is designed to contribute locally to the next generation of technological advancement and discovery.

The applicant pool for this year’s scholarship increased by 50%. Local celebrity judges WSAV’s Kim Gusby and Royce Learning Center Executive Director Ron Wilson returned for the second year in a row to review the submissions from area high school students.

In response to learning that he won, Nigel said, “I am honored to have been chosen by your team for this award and appreciate this opportunity immensely. With your tremendous aid through this scholarship, I can be set on my career path without a heavy burden of debt. Getting my degree and working towards my goals will allow me to have a strong pathway to help make a difference.”

Nigel plans to attend Savannah State University in the fall where he will pursue further study in Data Science and Computers, followed by plans to achieve his Master’s and concentrate in government work. Nigel’s involvement with the Model African Union and Model United Nations group allowed him to make various connections with United States Consulates in Washington, D.C., and generated an interest in how government and technology work together as one.
