Spandrel Development Partners offered a sneak peek on September 10 of The Baxly at 630 Indian Street,  a new building that features the largest solar array of any multi-family building in Savannah's Downtown Historic District. The Baxly’s solar array (also known as a solar roof farm) has a 20,925 square foot service area and will provide substantial energy savings and numerous environmental benefits.

A brand-new building with modern conveniences that complement Savannah’s historic charm and beauty, The Baxly is like a breath of fresh air. At seven stories high, The Baxly, in addition to its roof top solar array, commands a variety of spectacular views of the city and its waterfront.

The Baxly features welcoming, open floor plans in its studio, one and two-bedroom apartment homes and is one of the first fully-amenitized, multi-family residential buildings built in Savannah since the 1960s. All of The Baxly’s 275 apartment homes have smart thermostats, modern fixtures and finishes, custom kitchen cabinetry, chef-inspired kitchens, subway tile backsplash, and more. The Baxly has a gracious indoor parking area with car charging stations and numerous and spacious community amenities, including a wine storage and tasting lounge, co-working space, tool and craft shop, an expansive resort-style saltwater pool, cabanas, clubroom with billiards and video wall, and more. Pet-friendly, The Baxly also has an attractive, onsite pet spa.

By the numbers:

The Baxly's solar array produces 144kWAC per year with an estimated 275,381kWH of power offset from grid power over the course of a year.

How the solar array works

Solar panels capture and convert the sun's energy into DC energy. Then an inverter changes the DC energy into AC energy and the AC power travels from the inverter to the main panel board for use at The Baxly. The electricity meter records the produced energy as well as the additional energy required to power The Baxly. Any surplus solar electricity is automatically sold back to the utility provider.
