District Live at Plant Riverside District Announces Live Performances

District Live, a state-of-the-art live music venue at Plant Riverside District in Savannah, Ga., recently added a number of premier comedy and musical artists to the already impressive Spring 2023 line-up.

“We’re thrilled to welcome GRAMMY Award-winning artists and fan favorites to our District Live stage in the heart of Savannah’s Entertainment District,” said Scotty Henley, Director of Entertainment at JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District. “In April and May, audiences will have the opportunity to be entertained by a wide variety of top performers, ranging from America’s Got Talent sensation Preacher Lawson and GRAMMY Award nominee Grace Potter to rising country star Alexandra Kay and Princess Goes, a high-energy band fronted by acclaimed actor Michael C. Hall from ‘Dexter,’ ‘Six Feet Under’ and ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch.’”

PREACHER LAWSON
Saturday, April 1 — 7 p.m.
$25 in advance | $30 day of show
Preacher Lawson is a stand-up comedian who became a household name when he made it to the final round of competition on the 12th season of NBC's America's Got Talent. His relatable humor also earned him appearances on America's Got Talent: The Champions and Britain's Got Talent: The Champions, where he advanced to the finale and received the most votes from fans. Presented in conjunction with Live Nation.

ALEXANDRA KAY
Monday, April 17 — 8 p.m.
$20 in advance | $25 day of show
A country music favorite, Alexandra Kay began writing songs at the age of 15 and
started her career in hip-hop, R&B and pop before finding her voice in country music. To date, she has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and collaborated with some of the most iconic names in the industry, including Randy Travis and Tim McGraw. Alexandra Kay will bring her Backroad Therapy tour to District Live and perform her hit songs "Backroad Therapy'' and "Skip This Part," which debuted at #1 and #2 respectively on the iTunes country charts. HOVVDY with WHITMER THOMAS and girlpuppy

Hovvdy is an indie rock band from Austin, Texas featuring the vocals and artistry of Will Taylor and Charlie Martin. To date, Hovvdy has released albums with Loafer and Lomelda and earned acclaim when their album Cranberry was featured on Pitchfork's "Great Records You May Have Missed." Comedian and voice actor Whitmer Thomas and indie rock artist girlpuppy will join Hovvdy for this special performance. Presented in conjunction with Live Nation.

MIPSO
Thursday, April 20 — 8 p.m.

Featured on Rolling Stone’s 2017 list of “Artists You Need to Know,” Mipso is a folk-bluegrass band defined by the foursome’s layered vocal harmony, expert songwriting and shared inspiration from their North Carolina roots. Since their acclaimed debut with 2013’s Dark Holler Pop, Mipso has performed at countless music festivals, including the noteworthy Clearwater and Shaky Knees Music Festivals, and claimed the #1 spot on Billboard’s bluegrass charts with their album Old Time Reverie. THE TRAVELIN’ MCCOURYS

Comprised of brothers Ronnie and Rob McCoury, as well as fiddler Jason Carter, bassist Alan Bartram and guitarist Cody Kilby, The Travelin’ McCourys are a GRAMMY Award-winning band that is bringing bluegrass into the 21st century with live performances that Rolling Stone calls “a sublime combination of rock and bluegrass, contemporary and classic, old and young.” Named the 2018 Instrumental Group of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), The Travelin’ McCourys have earned top acclaim in the industry and are the only group to have each of its members recognized with at least one IBMA award for his instrument. LPT SALSA BAND
Friday, May 5 — 8 p.m.

In honor of Cinco de Mayo, LPT Salsa Band – a sizzling Jacksonville, Fla.-based 10-piece Afro-Cuban salsa orchestra – will take center stage at District Live. Widely considered the “ambassadors of Salsa and Afro-Cuban music in the Southeast,” LPT will deliver a high-energy performance of Latin music, with a live DJ closing out the night with even more music that’s perfect for dancing. The party will continue until midnight. Put on your dancing shoes for this very special evening!

SURF CURSE
Saturday, May 6 — 8 p.m.
$25 in advance | $30 day of show
Originally formed as a duo in Reno, Nev., Nick Rattigan and Jacob Rubeck moved to California, where Surf Curse’s multifaceted sound infused with indie, punk, pop and psych rock influences fit perfectly into the Southern California punk scene. The band’s 2013 single “Freaks” found new life on TikTok in 2020 and has since earned over 650 million worldwide streams and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) platinum certification. The band has performed at Coachella and on top stages around the world. Presented in conjunction with Live Nation.

PRINCESS GOES
Sunday, May 14 — 8 p.m.

Princess Goes is a trio comprised of vocalist, lyricist, musician and Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie) and drummer
Peter Yanowitz (The Wallflowers, Morningwood). A theatrical sensibility is part of the trio’s DNA, especially in live shows, since the band members met on Broadway during the production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Princess Goes offers a stripped-down synthesizer-and-drum attack and is informed by a wide range of influences, from the glam, experimental, ambient music of David Bowie and Giorgio Moroder’s ‘70s disco productions for Donna Summer to ‘80s new wave dance music and contemporary electronic dance acts like Justice. GRACE POTTER

SUPER BLUE: KURT ELLING & CHARLIE HUNTER

Two-time GRAMMY Award-winner Kurt Elling will be joined by producer-guitarist Charlie Hunter for a special live performance of their jazz album Super Blue, which features a head-turning blend of high-energy funk, indelible beats and powerful lyrics. Called “the standout male vocalist of our time” by The New York Times, Elling is known for his rich baritone, four-octave range and compelling storytelling.
