Goodwill of the Coastal Empire CEO Mohsen Badran Resigns

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, August 6th, 2014

Georgia CEO has learned that Goodwill President & CEO, Mohsen Badran will resign today but remain until September 26th. A press conference will be held later today. Badran tendered his letter of resignation to the board of directors on August 4th. The reason given for Badran’s departure is said to be strictly a family matter. Badran’s family lives in the New York City, and the commute has become a strain on all concerned.

Badran was appointed president and CEO in Savannah on December 10, 2010, after serving 18 years with Goodwill Industries of New York and Northern New Jersey, Inc., where he was Senior Vice President. He came to Savannah with a clear vision for leadership. “We want to make Goodwill Industries of the Coastal Empire the leading human services agency in the area,” he said in a 2011 interview in the Savannah Business Journal. “We want to make sure that people in need trust us to serve them effectively.” Badran said his ultimate goal was that partners and stakeholders would view Goodwill as the leading agency of its kind.

Goodwill of the Coastal Empire enjoyed significant growth under Badran’s three-plus-years of leadership. Programs and services expanded exponentially, and new, modern Goodwill Thrift Stores began popping up around the community. The thrift stores are the organization’s primary means of support. The organization, based in Savannah, serves the entire Georgia coast.

Badran succeeded former CEO William G. “Bill” Oakley who served the Coastal Empire for more than 10 years. Oakley left Savannah in August 2010 to take the helm at Goodwill Industries of Central Florida in Orlando, a position he still holds. The interim CEO was longtime employee Bardwell B. “Bard” Way, Vice President of Finance, who kept things moving until Badran came aboard.

Badran is expected to make a public statement announcing his resignation at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the organization’s headquarters on Sallie Mood Drive in Savannah. Savannah CEO will have more on this breaking story later in the day.
