The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce has hired Jared W. Downs as its new director of government affairs. This key role on the Chamber staff is responsible for advocating on behalf of the business community and working with local, state and federal officials to promote business-positive legislation.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the selection of Jared Downs to fill the role of director of government affairs,” says Chamber President and CEO William Hubbard. “Advocacy on behalf of business is one of the Chamber’s most important functions, and Mr. Downs’ experience in the legislative arena makes him the perfect person to lead that effort.”

Downs has more than 16 years of experience working in legislative affairs. Prior to accepting his position at the Chamber, Downs was regional director for U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson and Zell Millner, respectively, after working as regional representative for U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell. Downs holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, and an Associate’s degree from Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Savannah program, as well as a graduate and board member of Leadership Southeast Georgia.
