Federal Judge OK's Change in Georgia Federal Election Calendar

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp said today that a federal judge has granted an unopposed motion to move up Georgia's 2014 federal election calendar two weeks to avoid a conflict with Memorial Day.

Federal Judge Steve C. Jones granted the unopposed motion, which Kemp sought so that advance voting would not have to be conducted on the Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend.

The 2014 Federal Election Calendar for the state is:

March 3-7: Qualifying period for candidates seeking federal office;

April 5: Deadline to transmit Uniform and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) ballots (for the federal primary runoff election);

May 20: Federal primary election;

June 7: Deadline to transmit UOCAVA ballots (for the federal primary runoff election);

July 22: Federal primary runoff election;

Sept. 20: Deadline to transmit UOCAVA ballots (for the federal general election);

Nov. 4: Federal general election;

Nov. 22: Deadline to transmit UOCAVA ballots (for the federal general runoff election);

Jan. 6, 2015: Federal general runoff election.
