Trident Sustainability Group [TSG] and CEO Tommy Linstroth are putting “the money were the mouth is”, by supporting the Savannah Bicycle Campaign [SBC] with a monetary donation of $1500.00 to assist the campaigns plan to design and build a mobile Bike Repair shop, which can travel and assist in repairing bikes for a more environmentally friendly and affordable form of transportation.
The Savannah Bicycle Campaign, a nonprofit membership based organization is at work to build a more environmentally friendly Savannah through bicycling and is implementing education of drivers and cyclists, and encouragement of bicycling as a healthy means of transportation or recreation.
To ensure that a bicycle is accessible to everybody, the SBC is looking to establish a so called “New Standard Cycles” project, a program dedicated to partner with social service and workforce development agencies to identify people who need safe, affordable and reliable transportation.
The “ New Standard Cycles ” program will as well establish and outfit the mobile bicycle repair system, which will bring the basic bike repairs to all residents who like to use a bike, but don't have the ability to make the repairs themselves or are unable to afford having repairs completed at a bike shop. The mobile system, founded by the grant from TSG, will enable the SBC to provide services like flat tire repair, brake adjustments and similar tasks at community centers, farmers markets, festivals and other locations. A repair stand, tools and consumables (inner tubes, brake cables, etc.) will be fitted onto a bike trailer, allowing it to be pulled by bike to events and service delivery locations.
“We are committed to honoring our commitment to One Percent for the Planet by supporting the Savannah Bicycle Campaign”, said Tommy Linstroth, Principal of Trident Sustainability Group. “As a bike commuter myself, I appreciate all the work SBC does to make Savannah a more bike-friendly community”
“We'd like to build a mobile bicycle repair center on a bike trailer. This would allow us to take tools, repair stands, parts, etc. out into the community so that we could offer more extensive bicycle repairs at the farmer's market, community centers, schools and community meeting points,” said John Bennett, Executive Director of the SBC. “The grant from Trident Sustainability Group will allow us to implement this dream and hopefully bring more bikes to the streets of Savanah, which consequently will result in health benefits for riders and less impact on the environment; hence a healthier city and population.”
The debut for the mobile bike repair service is planned to be up and running by the end of August 2014.
