A Georgia-lensed production has claimed the top spot for a second year in a row as “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” topped the charts as 2014’s highest-grossing film. The Lionsgate movie shot past the summer hit “Guardians of the Galaxy” to become last year’s highest-grossing domestic release earning $336 million to date.

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” opened in China on February 8th, 2015 and had already grossed more than $700 million worldwide. The release now brings the global box office for the three “Hunger Games” films to more than $2.2 billion.

The series final installment, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” will premiere in theaters on November 20, 2015, this time in both 3D and IMAX formats.

With the global release and success of these films, Georgia locations are seen by millions throughout the world – creating residual effects such as tourism that continue to positively impact Georgia’s economy long after the cameras stop. Recently, Atlanta Movie Tours launched a Girl On Fire Tour to capitalize on the growing interest of the “Hunger Games” films.
