The Historic Whitman Mansion Continues Whitman Wednesdays to Support Coastal Pet Rescue

Press release from the issuing company

Wednesday, May 13th, 2015

The Whitman Mansion will continue its series of Whitman Wednesday events – an initiative launched earlier this year to support local nonprofits – on the evening of Wednesday, June 10. Proceeds from this social event will benefit Coastal Pet Rescue, an all-volunteer animal rescue charity dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected dogs and cats in the Coastal Empire and surrounding areas. It was founded in 2003 in Savannah.

The Whitman Mansion first kicked off this charitable endeavor earlier this year and the parties feature drinks, delicious hor d’oeuvres, entertainment and networking opportunities.   Proceeds from each event go to the evening’s designated nonprofit organization.

For a $25 donation in advance or $30 at the door, attendees can get a taste of what the beautifully restored Victorian mansion has to offer. The next Whitman Wednesday is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at the mansion, which is located at 611 Whitaker St. in Savannah. As they mingle, guests will enjoy heavy appetizers, assorted wines, beers and soft drinks along with the evening’s signature cocktail, a fuzzy navel – all graciously donated by The Whitman Hospitality Group. In keeping with the party’s theme, Just Desserts of Savannah will provide dog-bone shaped sweets.

The social also will feature a silent auction, allowing guests to bid on a variety of donated gifts, luxury items and services, such as a half-day charter of The Whitman Yacht, regularly valued at $750, tickets for Universal Studios and vacation package on Tybee Island.

The Whitman Mansion General Manager Bob Vardzel said “Our first Whitman Wednesday was such a hit; we’ve had inquiries from the public about the date of the next event. We’re so happy to be able to contribute to worthy charitable causes and endeavors right here in Savannah while giving the community a chance to relax and enjoy an evening out in the comfort and luxury of our historic mansion.”

Lisa Scarbrough, co-director and founder of Coastal Pet Rescue, said, “We’re grateful to The Whitman for helping us raise funds and awareness when it comes to the plight of area animals who are in need of care, medical treatment, food and loving homes. We expect our Whitman Wednesday will be a wonderful opportunity for guests to have fun and enjoy the atmosphere while supporting the needs of our furry friends who are benefitting from our recently opened shelter.”
