Brian Sapp, P.E., project manager with Tharpe Engineering Group, has been announced as the latest recipient of the prestigious Connolly Award. On February 23, 2017, the award will be presented at the SAME Engineering Week Technical Conference in Savannah, Georgia.

Since its inception, The Connolly Award has been presented annually to a civilian or military engineer for distinguished contributions to the field of engineering as a whole. The award focuses particularly on notable benefactions in construction, design, and methods to bring distinction to the Savannah Community.

Sapp has over ten years of comprehensive experience in structural engineering. He serves on the Business Education Advisory Council for the School of Engineering at H.V. Jenkins High School, and also is the mentor for two after-school engineering programs at Jenkins and Savannah Arts Academy.

His contributions bring credit and distinction to the Savannah community as he empowers students to diplomatically solve problems and develop skills to be future leaders in the field.

Sapp commented, “Over the next several decades, we are going to depend on this future generation to keep us on the pathway to success. In order to maintain and grow as a community, we must continue to evolve and develop solutions to meet the latest challenges.”

Cody Tharpe, head engineer and principal of Tharpe Engineering expressed his pride for Sapp’s acknowledgement by the Award,

“Brian embodies the essence of what makes our firm great. His technical proficiency and work ethic are unsurpassed, and he is driven by a passion to serve our community, something we hold as a truly critical trait in our firm. This award serves to recognize that commitment and his accomplishments in our field. We are honored to have Brian on our team.”

The Connolly Award was named in honor of James B. Connolly (1868- 1957). Connolly’s accomplishments were wildly diverse -  an Olympic Gold Medalist, Harvard scholar, Spanish-American War veteran, Congress candidate, American maritime author, and a Savannah District, US Army Corps of Engineer’s employee - a true Renaissance man in both Savannah and American history.
