This Saturday's A-Town Get Down Festival to Showcase Revitalization Efforts

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, March 21st, 2017

This Saturday, March 25th, countless musicians, artists, vendors, and food trucks will converge for Savannah’s 7th Annual A-Town Get Down Art & Music Festival from 12pm-12am. Previously held at the Charles Morris Center, the festival moves to its new location this year on Indian Street, under the bridge.

Festival representatives have collaborated with several individuals and organizations on revitalization efforts for the festival’s new venue area, defined by Indian Street, between Fahm Street and the Talmadge Bridge.

Savannah Development and Renewal Authority is donating a large shipping container, which will be displayed under the bridge temporarily for the festival. Eric Tucker of Eastern Excavating Co. helped prepare and level the land, while Tom Havens and Jocelyn Larson of Coastal Civil Engineering have provided consultation, mapping, and aerial views for permitting and city presentations. Madson Modern Workshop, which provides landscape, urban, and architectural design and planning services, has also served as a consultant for the Indian Street revitalization projects. Together, these groups plus countless other volunteers lending their time and effort have all helped transform the space into an emerging, creative hub for Savannah.

The new venue not only showcases these collaborative revitalization efforts, but also allows for more stages and live art installations for the festival. Guests will see large-scale paintings (painted live by local artists), large-scale projection installations by Will Penny and Jason Armstrong Beck, a large-scale interactive sculpture by artist Matt Toole, decorative 6-foot totem poles created by young local art students through Loop It Up Savannah, and more.

The A-Town Get Down festival is free from 12pm-5pm and ticketed from 5pm-Midnight for the headliner performers and art events including Cracker; Bobby Rush; Colonel Bruce Hampton, Ret.; and many more. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.A-TownGetDown.com.
