Combine big band, 120 singers, award winning singers, a tap dancer and world renowned conductor and you have an afternoon of Duke Ellington's finest works.  Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert is a musical feast of gospel and jazz, intertwining music and movement.

The Savannah Children's Choir is joined by Savannah State University Chorale and Johnson High School Choir.

The soloists have international and local fame.  DeVonne Gardner was discovered by Duke Ellington when she was sixteen years old and sang Duke Ellington's Second Sacred Concert.  Local audiences will remember Robert Sims from his gold medal award winning performance at the  American Traditions Vocal Competition.  Jazmine Thomas is an alumni of the Savannah Children's Choir.  Jazmine has traveled nationally and internationally, including performing at the White House, with the acclaimed Howard University Gospel Choir.

Aaron Parkhurst has almost two decades of tap dance experience. He has been working in NYC professionally for the past 10 years teaching and performing.

Conductor Roland Carter was selected to conduct the inaugural concert of the African American Music Series at Carnegie Hall. He has received the Tennessee Governor’s Arts Award and has been recognized by universities throughout the country including an honorary doctorate from Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. Carter shares with Robert Shaw and Leonard DePaur the honor of being one of three musicians to receive honorary membership the MOREHOUSE COLLEGE GLEE CLUB throughout its history.
The band, anchored by local jazz pianist / arranger Eric Jones, herald from across the region and the country.
