Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, May 30th, 2017

Georgia Southern University President Jaimie L. Hebert, Ph.D., announced the appointment of the direct reports to the President for the new Georgia Southern University. The selection of the direct reports, decided with input from cabinet-level vice presidents, whose appointments were announced on May 5, and University System of Georgia staff, nearly completes the senior organizational structure for the consolidated University.

Both the appointments of the direct reports to the President and the vice presidents for the new University are contingent upon the Board of Regents’ approval of the new Georgia Southern University. Once approved, effective January 1, 2018, the President’s direct reports are as follows:

Jana Briley
Chief Auditor

As a “Double Eagle,” Jana Briley brings more than 27 years of experience as an accounting professional and holds the professional designation of Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner.

Maura Copeland
Executive Counsel

Maura Copeland has served Georgia Southern for more than 10 years, first as Associate University Attorney and then as Associate Vice President for Legal Affairs. Prior to Georgia Southern, she served as a judicial law clerk in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Tom Kleinlein
Athletics Director

Tom Kleinlein was officially announced as Georgia Southern’s Director of Athletics on Nov. 12, 2012. A former college football player at Wake Forest University, Kleinlein joined the Eagles following two years at Kent State University, where he served as the deputy athletics director, and five years at Arizona State University, where he served as the associate athletics director for football.

Leigh Price
Executive Associate to the President

Leigh Price joined Georgia Southern University as an administrative specialist in the Office of the President in 2006. Price brings more than 10 years of managerial and business experience to her position, previously serving as a recreation manager and supervisor at the Hyatt Regency Hilton Head and as the owner/operator of a small business.

Ron Stalnaker
Chief Information Officer

Ron Stalnaker brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, corporate technology and leadership to his role as Chief Information Officer. Prior to his 12 years with Georgia Southern, he worked at IBM Global Services, leading projects and offering strategic guidance to Fortune 500 companies and state and local government entities.

Hebert has not yet announced the appointment of the campus lead for Armstrong/Liberty which was included in the senior organizational structure approved by the University System of Georgia. Unlike other direct report positions which are well-defined positions and currently exist, the new campus lead position requires additional attention to fully define the responsibilities and requirements of the role. The campus lead and other appointments are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
