Armstrong State University Cell and Molecular Biology major Chelsea Sawyer has been selected to receive a scholarship from the Savannah Coastal Empire Professional Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers.

“Winning this scholarship is positive reinforcement as I continue to accomplish my goals,” says Sawyer. “I have also been able to meet and network with amazing individuals in the NSBE organization. They have become mentors.”

The Savannah Coastal Empire Professional Chapter, one of 68 NSBE professional chapters nationwide, offers merit-based scholarships to minority undergraduate students majoring in science, technology, engineering or math. The application process involves a thorough review of the applicant’s transcripts, letters of recommendation from faculty members and an essay detailing how their career plans would serve the community at large.

Sawyer won the Outstanding Student Leader Award at Armstrong’s 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Awards and serves as the Vice President of Armstrong’s Student African American Sisterhood. She plans to pursue medical school and become an obstetrician after graduation in May 2018.
