Savannah State University has received a $100,000 grant award from the U.S. Department of Education as part of the Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad program. Under the direction of Emmanuel Naniuzeyi, Ph.D., director of the International Education Center, this is a continuation of a grant awarded to SSU in 2015.

A group of six SSU professors and six Savannah-Chatham County Public School System teachers will travel to Ghana in summer 2018 and spend four weeks in six cities to engage in training and research activities with the goal to enhance the social studies and foreign language curriculums at SSU and SCCPSS.

In spring and summer 2016, Naniuzeyi led a group of SSU professors and SCCPSS teachers on a month-long cultural trip. Upon their return, the information and materials collected in Ghana contributed to curriculum development at both SSU and the public school system in order to enhance students’ knowledge in social studies.

Applications for participation in the 2018 project will open soon.
