Armstrong State University Associate Professor of Computer Science and Information Technology Felix Hamza-Lup, Ph.D., recently secured an Erasmus Plus Grant, which will fund international exchange opportunities for students and faculty at Armstrong and Georgia Southern University.

“It is an incredible honor and privilege to have been selected for an Erasmus Plus Grant,” says Armstrong Director of International Education Dorothée Mertz-Weigel, Ph.D. “Thanks to Dr. Felix Hamza-Lup’s worldwide vision and international experience, Armstrong and Georgia Southern will be identified as universities that are open to important global initiatives.”

The grant, which Hamza-Lup secured in collaboration with Paul Borza, Ph.D., from the Transilvania University of Brasov in Romania, will provide funding over the next several years to facilitate faculty and student exchanges with universities in Romania. New courses will be developed in the areas of Energy Efficiency Assessment and Renewable Energy Sources, among others.

Implementation of the grant will begin during the Fall 2017 semester with Armstrong State University and continue in 2018 and years following with Georgia Southern University as the two institutions consolidate.

Erasmus Plus offers opportunities for a wide range of organizations, including universities, education and training providers, think tanks, research organizations and private businesses. The institution’s primary aim is to reduce unemployment, promote adult learning and encourage European democracy while supporting innovation.

Hamza-Lup is a Fulbright Scholar and holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida.
