The Advanced Technology Development Center, the state of Georgia’s technology startup incubator, has named Clegg Ivey its Angel-in-Residence. In this role, Ivey, who has launched nearly a dozen companies, will support the incubator’s startup efforts in its ATDC @ Savannah programming.

Ivey, a veteran angel investor, mentor capitalist, serial entrepreneur, and a business acceleration specialist, will work with José Mallabo, who was recently named startup catalyst for Savannah. As an angel, Ivey will work with ATDC’s Savannah-area entrepreneurs and mentor the later-stage companies as they prepare to seek funding.

“Given his unique background as technologist, entrepreneur, teacher, and lawyer, this is great for Savannah entrepreneurs because Clegg has a robust investor network that we can build upon,” said Amy Love, the ATDC @ program manager. “He understands every facet in the process of going from idea to commercialization and will be an invaluable resource to our companies as they raise capital.”

As an entrepreneur, his business plans and pitches have generated about $100 million in angel and venture capital investment for nearly a dozen startups. Companies founded or co-founded by Ivey have had offices in 10 countries, and sold products and services in 36 countries around the world.

Working as a Silicon Valley technology lawyer in the 1990s, Ivey successfully litigated several high-profile cases, including against Microsoft and the Recording Industry Association of America. Ivey’s roster of clients included Hasbro, Google, Apple, Sun, and several other tech titans.

Ivey has been an adjunct professor at Tulane University in New Orleans and Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, where he taught subjects such as venture finance, entrepreneurship, and technology and public policy.

He moved to Savannah in 2009 and has since started several local bricks-and-mortar retail companies, including Savannah to Go, The Guild Hall, and The Chromatic Dragon, as well as investing in a number of other startups.
