Carlos Gonzalez of Savannah has won a nifty prize. Gonzalez won $25,000 playing the Georgia Lottery’s $1,000,000 777 Slots of Luck scratcher.

Walmart #4530, located at 10530 Abercorn St. in Savannah, sold the winning ticket.

According to Gonzalez, he was out buying groceries when he decided to purchase the lucky ticket. After realizing that he was a winner, Gonzalez said that he was in disbelief.

“I’ve never won a prize that big,” he said. “I kept looking to see if the symbols were the same.”

The 52-year-old math and science college professor said that he plans to use his winnings for car repairs and to pay some bills.

Gonzalez claimed his prize Tuesday at the Georgia Lottery’s Savannah District Office.

The $1,000,000 777 Slots of Luck game is loaded with cash prizes, including $1 million top prizes, $25,000 second-tier prizes, $10,000 third-tier prizes and more.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $19 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.8 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.6 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
