Students from the Business Management program at Ogeechee Technical College recently visited the Georgia Ports Authority and Gulfstream this past October and November, respectively. Business Management instructor, Alex Harris, said, “The trips were in the plans for quite a few months, so it was wonderful to see them realized.”  The Georgia Ports Authority trip included a police-escorted bus ride along the port with GPA’s Manager of Communications, who provided an array of details about what the students were seeing.  Students were especially interested in the job of loading containers onto the ship from the port, partially due to the annual salary. Harris stated, “The port epitomizes organizational skills at the highest level.”

Harris said the Gulfstream visit was equally engaging and started with a human resources panel discussion where members from each area spoke about their duties and responsibilities.  Following the informative, hour-long discussion, students were taken to see a timeline illustrating Gulfstream’s evolution, along with one of the production facilities, tasked with assembling the company’s aviation delights. Harris said, “These aircrafts display great detail and a degree of customization, which is to be expected with price tags easily exceeding $100 million.“ Harris says return trips are tentatively in the works for Fall 2018.
