I-95 Bridge Preservation Project Underway in Chatham County

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, December 6th, 2017

The $1.3 million bridge preservation project will affect US 80 traffic through Sunday, December 10 at the bridge over Interstate 95.

The contractor will shift US 80 eastbound traffic then move to the westbound traffic with general work times of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting. In an effort to minimize the impact to the traveling public, work to be performed at night.

The bridge preservation project features metallized coating of steel bridge structures. This bridge coating technic provides long-term corrosion control especially in the coastal region’s salt-rich environment.  This project also includes several other bridges over I-95 in Chatham County. Bridgework locations will be forthcoming as the project progresses.

Citizens should be aware of traffic control, lane closures and heavy equipment working close to passing vehicles. Whenever you approach a work zone: slow down; allow extra distance between vehicles; read signs; obey road crew flaggers; and expect the unexpected.
