Larry Lower announces his candidacy for the Savannah Chatham School Board Presidency.

“Over the next four years it is critical that Savannah-Chatham has an effective school board president who works toward progress with the board, superintendent and staff while focusing on elementary education improvements for our students,” Lower said. “It is imperative that we work together so that our students learn at high levels, graduate and have a productive future.”

As a current School Board Member representing District 6, a former Chairman of the Chatham County Board of Tax Assessors and a police chief, Lower brings effective leadership to the forefront in the school board president’s election.

Lower is focusing his campaign and potential school board presidency on working well with school board members and community leaders. He will continue to attend meetings and other official school board business programs providing accountability to taxpayers for an efficiently run, well-respected school board.

During his two terms as the District 6 School Board Representative, Lower worked with the Superintendent and staff to: establish the WFHS construction program; organize the annual district job fairs for high school juniors and seniors; start an early pre-kindergarten program; prompt district pre-k curriculum sharing with day care centers; establish the budget committee and improve budgeting transparency; adopt a budget with no tax increases for three consecutive years; and get ESPLOST III passed to improve school facilities.

Lower has served as the Budget Committee chairman, was an active member of the Transportation, Calendar and Academic Excellence committees, and the Accountability Committee. He has also served as chairman of the Chatham County Board of Assessors and worked as a United States Marine Drill Instructor, a Director of Public Safety, a Police Chief and a business owner.
