Local non-profit, Senior Citizens, Inc., is hosting its 8th annual Miles for Meals 5k Run/Walk on a new date and time. The event, which will benefit SCI’s Meals on Wheels program, will be held on March 24 beginning at 8 a.m. The run/walk presented by Chatham Parkway Subaru will start at Senior Citizens, Inc. on Bull Street, and loop through the picturesque Washington Avenue before ending at SCI. Those who cannot make the big day can sign up for the event’s virtual run and participate on their own, any day in the month of March.

Miles for Meals is a fun 5K run/walk perfect for all ages. Participants are encouraged to bring their four-legged friends, kids in strollers, and dress as their favorite foods.  Race proceeds will help fight senior hunger by supporting SCI’s MOW program, which delivers more than 5,500 hot, healthy meals and friendly smiles each week to homebound seniors throughout Chatham, Bryan, Liberty and Effingham counties.

Every $6 raised by this event will provide a freshly-prepared, nutritious meal and wellness-check to a homebound senior in our community. The goal is to fund more than 2,500 home-delivered meals for seniors in our communities.

·       8:30 am 5K - 3.2 mile Run/Walk

AWARDS:

·       Top 3 overall male and female

·       Top 3 male and female in each age group

·       Best costume, most senior, and most junior

Awards will be presented immediately following tabulations at Senior Citizens, Inc.
