Statesboro Mayor, Johnathan McCollar, recently addressed the students, faculty, and staff at Ogeechee Technical College about overcoming adversity. McCollar said, “No matter your walk of life, you will deal with some kind of adversity. You must believe and hold true to your values. You can’t win if you’re not in.” McCollar said he believes in the community and thinks the diversity is what makes Statesboro unique. He strongly supports the belief of investing in people and feels that education is the key to unlocking the potential of the community, and making the environment a positive one. McCollar is in his inaugural year as mayor, making history earlier this year when he was elected the city’s first African American mayor.
