Dr. Robert “Robin” Wynn, known as a calm and comforting cardiothoracic surgeon, posthumously received the Physician Legends of St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System Award Tuesday.

Several members of his family, including his wife, children and grandchildren, were in attendance during the April 17 General Staff meeting when a portrait of Dr. Wynn was presented. The portrait will hang next to the physician’s lounge at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

“He assumed multiple positions of leadership with his calm, reasoned sense of inclusion, fairness and pursuit of excellence, providing the basis for the trust placed in him by his peers throughout the medical community,” said Dr. Anthony Costrini, who made the presentation and was a long-time colleague and friend. “Above all, he was a caring physician and friend to all who knew him – a job well done by a true and faithful servant.”

Dr. Wynn provided excellent care in Savannah and the Low Country for more than 40 years. He moved to Savannah in 1974 and began his lifelong commitment to patients, family and community.

Among his many positions of leadership, Dr. Wynn served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Chief of Staff at Candler Hospital. He also worked to educate young trainees as a Clinical Professor of the Medical College of Georgia and Associate Clinical Professor of Mercer University School of Medicine. Dr. Wynn worked tirelessly to develop and advance the cardiovascular surgery program at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Dr. Wynn passed away in 2017.
