Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, January 16th, 2019

Lucky’s Market has named the YMCA of Coastal Georgia the recipient of their first Impact Day of 2019. Through the generosity of Lucky’s Market, the YMCA will receive 10 percent of the Savannah store sales from January 8, 2019. These funds will help the YMCA of Coastal Georgia  create and utilize educational materials to support their monthly produce distribution event, Fresh Express, at Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health.

Held quarterly, Impact Days are an essential part of Lucky’s Community Project.  Lucky’s Community Project is an ongoing endeavor to create lasting change in the communities they serve. The YMCA of Coastal Georgia was selected as the local charity for their January Impact Day.

Thanks to the generosity of Lucky’s Market, the YMCA will work to develop healthy eating and nutrition education information to include as part of their monthly produce donation program, Fresh Express. Each month, the YMCA distributes fresh produce and bread to those in need at Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health, at no cost to participants. Families can come and select two bags of fresh foods for their homes. The Fresh Express program launched just over two years ago and serves an average of 130 people a month. To date, over 19,000 pounds of produce and bread has been distributed back to the community to those who need it.

Joel Smoker, President/CEO of the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, says, “We are incredibly appreciative to Lucky’s Market for selecting the YMCA of Coastal Georgia as the benefactor for their upcoming Impact Day.” He added, “We are honored to continue to partner with such a like-minded organization, Lucky’s Market continues to demonstrate their commitment to creating healthy communities  through their outreach efforts. As a leading wellness agency in Savannah, we know how important access and education is to lifting barriers of health. This generous gift from Lucky’s Market will allow us to amplify the work we’re currently doing through Fresh Express and add an educational component.”
