Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, October 15th, 2019

The Caretta Research Project (CRP) will celebrate this year’s banner loggerhead sea turtle nesting season with “A Night on the Bluff” on October 16, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. An annual fundraising event, A Night on the Bluff will take place under the cover of a full moon and star-filled sky at the beautiful home of Dr. and Mrs. Juha Jaakkola at 67 Bluff Drive on Isle of Hope in Savannah, Ga. Proceeds from this event will be used to directly fund loggerhead sea turtle research, education and conservation efforts on Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge.

“Many of us who live in the Savannah community are attracted to the beauty of our coastline and  neighboring islands,” said Linsey McDougal, president of Caretta Research Project Board of Directors. “However, beyond the beauty lies a wealth of native wildlife and natural habitats we must work to conserve and protect. The Caretta Research Project was created to ensure the long term protection and full recovery of the Northwest Atlantic loggerhead sea turtle population, a threatened species.”

A local nonprofit, CRP has provided hands-on research & conservation efforts and educational programs since 1973. The nonprofit organization uses long-term monitoring, innovative research tools and techniques, and multi-institutional collaborations to generate scientifically grounded results that can be applied to sea turtle conservation both regionally and internationally.

“A Night on the Bluff is a casual and comfortable al fresco event and brings together Savannahians who support our mission from philanthropists, conservationists, CEO’s, to neighbors and friends,” said McDougal. “This incredible evening overlooks the Skidaway River and features live entertainment, libations, Big Bon Pizza, and a curated silent auction. As supporters of our research, conservation and education efforts to protect Georgia’s loggerhead sea turtles, we hope you will join us in celebrating a banner year of sea turtle nesting along the coast!”
