Local Nonprofits Promote Awareness, Share Mission at the Southern Women’s Show this Weekend February 28th-March 1st

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, February 25th, 2020

Local and national nonprofit organizations take advantage of the unique opportunity to share their mission and promote awareness at the Southern Women’s Show in Savannah set to begin this Friday, February 28 through Sunday, March 1, 2020

“With an annual average of over 10,000 attendees coming through our doors each year for the Southern Women’s Show in Savannah, local and national nonprofits have a chance to get face time with Women’s Show guests to share their message and mission with people who may not be familiar with their organizations and the vital services they provide the community,” said Katie Cronin, show manager for Southern Women’s Show Savannah.

“Having nonprofits participate in our Women’s Show adds another layer to the incredible lineup of offerings we have planned for Savannah’s largest women’s event of the year,” said Cronin. “Guests can take away a better understanding of the many different organizations they can get involved with or simply contribute their support.”

Some of the nonprofit organizations participating in this year’s Women’s Show:

The Women’s Auxiliary of The Salvation Army will display information about The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program, which provides toys for needy children in the community at Christmas time, as well as items from The Salvation Army’s Boutique Store located at 42 West Montgomery Crossroads in Savannah, Ga. All proceeds from the Boutique Store fund The Salvation Army’s Drug and Rehab Program. The nonprofit will offer special drawings and giveaways to encourage awareness and volunteer opportunities at The Salvation Army.

The Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program will offer information on rider education programs for riders of every skill level. GMSP promotes motorist awareness programs, share the road campaigns, and is focused on highway safety issues affecting Georgia motorcyclists. The GMSP directly operates 14 training sites and certifies 16 private sites. Motorcycle RiderCoaches will be on hand at the Women’s Show to answer questions and talk about GMSP classes and rider safety.

The American Cancer Society will share information on their fight for a world without cancer. With more than 100 years of experience and leadership, they are a global force, fighting all cancers on all fronts, across the US, and around the globe. With the help of millions of supporters, they launch breakthrough research, create empowering resources for people to outsmart cancer, enable local communities to support those affected, and convening powerful activists to create awareness and impact. Also, Komen Coastal Georgia will share with guests what is ‘raised here, stays here.’ The organization is dedicated to helping local women in need receive care such as screenings and mammograms.

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia will sell delicious Girl Scout Cookies for purchase. This is the last weekend to purchase cookies. You're not just getting a tasty treat, you're also helping girls learn five essential skills—goal setting, decision-making, money management, people skills, and business ethics—all while helping them better themselves.

Hemophilia of Georgia is dedicated to providing services and support for Georgians who have hemophilia, von Willebrand Disease, and other inherited bleeding disorders. Outreach nurse Penny Kumpf will explain the symptoms of inherited bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand Disease, which is frequently undiagnosed, especially in women.

Mercy House Teen Challenge will sell handmade crafts, crosses, and inspirational plaques made on campus by the students for purchase. Guests can help set a man free from addiction today by taking home one of these products. Product sales provide the primary source of income for this ministry.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire will offer information about their work to serve the area’s most critically ill and injured children and their families. Their mission is to provide a restful, comfortable place for children and their families to find refuge and support as they receive medical treatment at nearby hospitals.
