Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, March 30th, 2020

The Salvation Army of Savannah has increased efforts to meet urgent human needs in the greater Savannah community in response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic and is in urgent need of supplies to support people in their shelters and community centers. The Salvation Army has partnered with Walmart and their new Registry for Good campaign which is designed to help local nonprofits obtain these urgent provisions for those most in need in our community.

These non-perishable and toiletry items will go to support low-income, homeless, laid off and struggling individuals and families in our community. To donate items, please visit the registry at https://www.walmart.com/…/e7e5b9e8-66c2-4923-a073-b4cec74be… Interested donors can also purchase gift cards through Walmart to send to the organization to enable each nonprofit to purchase the specific supplies they are in most need of. The supplies purchased will be shipped directly to their Area Command office and will then be distributed to those in need.

Other businesses have been reaching out to support The Salvation Army Savannah.  The Downtown Historic Savannah Subway recently donated 250 sandwiches and other businesses in the community are encouraged to support any way they can.

“In this time of crisis, The Salvation Army is there for the most vulnerable in our community. We are appealing for donations so we can continue helping those most affected by COVID-19,” said The Salvation Army of Savannah’s Major Paul Egan. “Without our support, these individuals and families would go without basic needs such as food, soap, clothing, diapers, etc. We are grateful for any donation through this registry – big or small”.

Walmart and The Salvation Army have collaborated for more than 30 years in an effort to meet local community needs. Supporters, like Walmart, help The Salvation Army serve more than 23 million Americans each year through a range of social services, helping them overcome poverty and economic hardships.

All donations made through the registry will remain in the local community and will help The Salvation Army provide support to those whose wages are gone, those who need food, those who have no place to call home, and many others who desperately need help and hope.
