The Salvation Army of Savannah has received a generous grant of $25,000 from the Truist Charitable Fund to meet urgent human needs as the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic significantly impacts our community. The Salvation Army is at the front line of providing housing, food, spiritual and practical care for the most vulnerable people among us during these challenging times.

The local nonprofit has expanded its emergency shelter facilities, provided kids' meals at their Community Center, fed many people through their community-based canteens, distributed refreshments to area first responders, supported children in their shelter with online learning, and more. There has been a huge surge in requests for food, clothing, rent and utilities assistance, so this charitable grant from Truist Charitable Fund helps The Salvation Army’s ability to respond to crucial needs.

"We are working tirelessly to help children, families and individuals who already have so little to manage throughout this very uncertain time. We have opened an additional shelter to house, feed and provide emotional support for the additional souls who need us as the pandemic brings greater economic problems to our community,” said The Salvation Army of Savannah’s Major Paul Egan. “Through it all, The Salvation Army is on the front-line helping society’s least fortunate and, as always, we are performing our duties in the spirit of faith, hope and love! We are thrilled to have been awarded this grant from Truist Charitable Fund to support our on-going efforts during this time."

The Salvation Army has proudly served the Savannah and surrounding communities for the past 120 years and has always been there to support low-income, homeless, laid off and struggling individuals and families. This grant helps The Salvation Army provide support to those whose wages are gone, those who need food, those who have no place to call home, and many others who desperately need help and hope.

BB&T and SunTrust formed the Truist Foundation with a shared purpose – to inspire and build better lives and communities. By providing grants in support of nonprofits through this Foundation, they aim to help grow these organizations’ impacts.
