The Salvation Army of Savannah (TSA) has received a generous donation of $70,000 from an anonymous donor to support the organization’s vital work in our community. COVID-19 has hit the Savannah region very hard with record levels of unemployment and school closures compounding existing issues of affordable housing and child care. The Salvation Army is providing housing, food, as well as spiritual and practical care for local individuals and families suffering economic and social hardships.

The Salvation Army has served greater Savannah for the past 120 years and has always supported the most vulnerable in our community. The local nonprofit offers services in adult rehabilitation, basic needs, emergency disaster relief, emergency financial assistance, housing and homeless services, hunger relief, and youth care. TSA is anticipating more challenges for our community as we enter the ‘new normal’ and relies on donations to provide much needed support for those whose wages are gone, those who need food, those who have no place to call home, and many others who desperately need help and hope.

"We have been blessed to receive this generous donation at this challenging time for our community.  Since the pandemic hit, The Salvation Army has seen a significant increase in demand for all of our services. Many vulnerable people in the Savannah region have been pushed over the edge into homelessness, hunger and great need. A large number of these people have turned to TSA to meet some of their most basic human requirements. Our doors have remained and will continue to be open to all, but our resources have been depleted. We anticipate the need for our services to remain at a very high level throughout this year and beyond. We remain thankful to all the supporters who make our mission possible,” said The Salvation Army of Savannah’s Major Paul Egan.

The Salvation Army serves all 159 counties in Georgia and is uniquely positioned with 40 facilities that provide family emergency and sheltering assistance throughout out the state. TSA’s workers are local and have always been here for the community. In times of disaster, the organization will continue to be the last to leave to offer support and guidance on the front lines.
