Students at Georgia Southern University will soon have the opportunity to earn a certificate in hospitality and tourism management to bolster their degrees and résumés.

Beginning in the Fall 2020, the Parker College of Business will offer the Interdisciplinary Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism Management, which will foster cross-training between hospitality management and tourism students to better prepare students for success in their studies and in the industry.

The faculty who teach hospitality and tourism courses recognize the importance of this certificate and the power it has to help new students who are approaching the job market.

“Students graduating with a degree in management and this certificate will find that they have an edge up on their competition as they apply for jobs in the hospitality and tourism industry,” said Charles Marvil, lecturer of hospitality management.

The certificate will be offered to students who complete a series of approved courses as well as an industry-related internship. Students must take 18 credit hours of study in hospitality management and tourism and earn a B or better in each course. They must also complete at least one industry certification, such as ServSafe and CVent, which are both offered at Georgia Southern.
