Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI), a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for area seniors, recently received a $4,621 contribution from River Street Sweets to help fund its Meals on Wheels program. River Street Sweets donated $1 from every online order during the month of April to SCI.

“Thanks to the support of our customers, we were able to make this donation to Senior Citizens, Inc. so they can continue delivering hot meals to local seniors,” said Jennifer Strickland, co-owner of River Street Sweets. “During this pandemic, helping each other is the best thing we can do.”

SCI’s Meals on Wheels program currently delivers 1,800 hot, healthy meals and friendly smiles each day to seniors throughout Chatham, Bryan, Liberty and Effingham counties. Since March, that number has steadily risen.

“Having the support of River Street Sweets means we will be able to continue adding older adults who are struggling to meet their nutritional needs, particularly during this time of COVID-19,” said Patti Lyons, president and CEO of Senior Citizens, Inc. “We are so fortunate to have them as a community partner. They indeed make our seniors’ lives sweeter.”
