Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) has announced dual learning options for its 2020-2021 school year, which is slated to begin Wednesday, Aug. 19. These options are subject to change pending governmental orders and guidance from health officials. 

In-person instruction is SCA’s preferred option for delivering the highest quality education and students’ best opportunity for successful learning outcomes. SCA will closely follow guidance set forth by the Georgia Department of Education, Governor Kemp, Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Center for Disease Control including daily symptom screening, social distancing, enhanced disinfecting and sanitation protocols, and many facility upgrades including air purification systems and germicidal UV-C entryway lighting. Students participating via in-person instruction will attend their classes each day on SCA’s campus. Breakfast and lunch will be provided from the nonprofit public charter school’s new kitchen. Meals will be prepared in collaboration with Chef Chris Nason of Daniel Reed Hospitality Restaurant Group. At this time, bus transportation will not be provided but fuel stipends will be available for SCA families. 

Students who selected the virtual learning option will learn from home and instruction will be facilitated by SCA faculty through a digital platform. Online instruction will have the same rigor and meet the same expectations as on-campus learning including remotely joining regular class meetings throughout the instructional day. Digital learning students will be required to work more independently, will need a designated workspace, and to complete assignments as scheduled. Assessments for digital learning students may require on-campus monitoring. SCA will provide each student participating in virtual instruction with a laptop but students must have access to reliable internet daily.

SCA is a K-12 charter school which is open to all students residing in Chatham County, is funded by the public education system but retains a charter that allows it to operate autonomously under a board of parents and community members.
