Redevelopment in Savannah’s Starland District Announces Naming & First Business Partner Sola Salon Studios

Wednesday, January 20th, 2021

In early 2019, redevelopment began on the historic building that once housed the family-owned business and community grocer, David’s Supermarket at 2400 Bull Street. Now in its final phase of construction, the partners behind the development are pleased to announce the naming of the project, Station 24, and first business partner, Sola Salon Studios, a high-end private studio space for salon professionals.

Station 24 pays homage to the history of Starland District’s close association with Savannah’s 19th-century streetcar lines, as well as the neighborhood grocery it once was, a first of its kind at the time. “We are particularly proud to be invested in the story of this neighborhood,” said Guy Davidson, a partner at DAI and developer behind Starland Yard and Station 24. “With partners like Sola Salon Studios, and other exciting prospects coming on board, Station 24 is an important asset for Starland’s continued revitalization. Those who live and work in Starland, as well as those who visit this eclectic neighborhood, deserve new life injected into vacant buildings to create interesting space for new residents, new businesses, and new neighborhood amenities.”

The new Sola Salon Studios (Sola) in Starland will be a premier location for established salon professionals. Scheduled for completion in May 2021, the 5,400 square foot salon includes space for 27 private studios in three sizes. This will mark the third Sola salon in the Chatham County area and will serve established salon professionals in the nearby communities of downtown and midtown Savannah, including Ardsley Park.

"The Savannah area has seen strong business growth, particularly at and around the Starland District,” said Matt Briger, Sola Salon Studios co-founder. “Our expansion here will give salon professionals a new, affordable way to grow their business on their own terms and offer consumers who live and work nearby more choices for experienced hairstylists, cosmetologists, nail techs, and other professional salon services.”

Sola set the standard for the salon suite concept with the opening of their first studio in Colorado in 2004. The Sola model offers a compelling option for established artists who want to own a boutique salon without the traditional costs and risks. Sola stylists can customize their own fully-equipped studio, set their own hours and pricing, and receive full commission on retail products.

Features of the new studios include private spaces with ample storage, oversized sliding/locking doors, floor-to-ceiling walls for privacy, individually controlled ventilation, all utilities, Wi-Fi, and full-spectrum lighting. The Starland District build-out will feature a new studio layout and cabinetry design enhancements.

Station 24 is a +/-17,000 SF building with an abundance of secure outdoor courtyard space available for tenant usage. The site also features a private parking lot and modern buildout with key historical design elements. Additional tenant announcements are coming soon, but there is space available for lease within the project.
