Last week, the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill welcomed the club’s Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) student for 2021-22, Sofie Bohl, at Savannah airport.  The GRSP was established by Rotarians in Georgia 75 years ago to promote world peace through understanding by offering scholarships to international students for one year of study in Georgia colleges and universities. Georgia Rotary Clubs sponsor students recommended by a Rotary Club in their home country. The students become adopted members of a Georgia “host family,” living on-campus at the school they attend and spending vacations and weekends with their host family. 

Sofie Bohl, 18, is from Sweden and will be attending Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus. She is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill, Skidaway Island Rotary Club, Metro Rotary, and Savannah Sunrise Rotary Club.  Members from these clubs traditionally meet the incoming student at the airport as they begin their year in Georgia. 

“We are excited to welcome Sofie to Coastal Georgia and introduce her to all of our Rotary club members as she enjoys the best of our southern culture over this academic year,” said Rotary Club president Emily Kurilla. “We are proud to be part of the GRSP initiative and excited about the year ahead.”

Each year, students from all over the world make friends in the United States and other nations and learn about differing cultures and lifestyles.
