Jack Daniel’s, Plant Riverside District to Celebrate the Holidays with Lighting of Barrel Tree

Staff Report

Thursday, November 17th, 2022

Jack Daniel’s and Plant Riverside District are bringing the Lynchburg holiday spirit to Savannah, Ga. for the very first time with the lighting of a special Barrel Tree in Montgomery Park, located on Savannah’s historic riverfront at 400 W. River St., on Friday, November 25 at 5:45 p.m.

The 18-foot Jack Daniel’s Barrel Tree is part of the 2022 Savannah Christmas Market at Plant Riverside District, which will offer a wide range of holiday-themed events as well as a dazzling European-style outdoor holiday market, live performances, children’s activities and much more from November 25, 2022 through January 1, 2023.

The Jack Daniel’s Barrel Tree is a tradition that started in 2011 at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tenn. The Barrel Tree at Plant Riverside District – one of only 12 in the United States – will feature five tiers and will be constructed from 50 Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey barrels.

Beginning December 1, barrels from the tree will be available for purchase for $150, with 100% of proceeds going to Operation Ride Home. In addition, Plant Riverside District and Jack Daniel’s will donate a portion of the sale of every Jack Daniel’s specialty drink sold during the Savannah Christmas Market (Nov. 25 to Jan. 1) to benefit Operation Ride Home.

Jack Daniel’s Operation Ride Home is a program in partnership with the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) that assists junior-enlisted service members and families travel from their military bases to see their loved ones. Since 2011, Operation Ride Home has raised more than $2.3 million in donations and helped send more than 10,000 individual service members and those with families home. Men and women from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard have been assisted with travel to all 50 states.

Jack Daniel’s only uses new charred oak barrels to make its whiskey, and they are never filled a second time. The barrels that will be used to build the Barrel Tree at Plant Riverside District were earlier entrusted to mature Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and will now be bringing another special holiday spirit to friends around the country.

Jack Daniel’s Barrel Trees will be built throughout the holiday season in 12 cities across the United States, including Lynchburg, Tenn.; Atlanta, Ga., Detroit, Mich.; Fort Sill, Okla.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Nashville, Tenn.; Savannah, Ga.; Tampa, Fla.; and Washington, D.C.

A Kessler Collection property, Plant Riverside District is an award-winning destination in Savannah, Ga. developed by visionary and hotelier Richard C. Kessler, the Chairman and CEO of Kessler Enterprise, Inc. Plant Riverside District originally opened in 2020 and attracts visitors from across the country and around the world.
