Dr. Stephanie Ambrose of St. Joseph’s/Candler Physician Network - Savannah Pediatric ENT, with Georgia ENT Specialists, has earned sub-certification in complex pediatric otolaryngology from the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Ambrose specializes in more complicated pediatric ENT procedures. A child’s ear infection, sinusitis or tonsillitis are among the common conditions that otolaryngologists can treat fairly simply. But there are also more complex conditions in children that require additional levels of skill and expertise.

“Ear, nose and throat diseases can present and progress very differently in children than in adults, needing different diagnostic and treatment strategies,” Dr. Ambrose said. “I’m proud to be able offer care in all aspects of pediatric otolaryngology, including complex procedures or common procedures in medically-complex patients.”

This additional certification has an impact in two different aspects of care. The first is in the ability to treat complicated ENT conditions, which such as cleft lip and palate, craniofacial care and airway reconstruction.

The second is in providing treatment for common ENT issues, but in medically-complex children. These patients may be considered medically complex for a variety of reasons, but some examples include having a genetic syndrome, having difficulty swallowing or living with a heart condition.

Physicians who earn this certification have typically completed a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology. In their additional training, pediatric otolaryngologists learn about conditions not common in the adult population such as airway reconstruction or congenital malformations. Dr. Ambrose is the region’s only fellowship-trained pediatric ENT who performs cleft lip and cleft palate corrective surgery.

Dr. Ambrose’s main office is at 5356 Reynolds Street, Suite 505. She also occasionally sees patients at St. Joseph’s/Candler’s Pooler Campus. To learn more or schedule an appointment, call 912-356-1515.
