SA Recycling, Georgia’s largest metal recycling company, will partner with American Legion Post 500 for an open house and $1000 check presentation on Saturday, February 17th from 11am to 1pm at 5509 Montgomery Street.

American Legion Post 500 Commander James Putney shares, “Prior to 1946, black veterans were not allowed to attend any American Legions so Post 36, Savannah’s first American Legion, petitioned the state for permission to allow blacks to have their own legion. Post 500 has had numerous homes; we have combined the first black post with the first post in Savannah at a new location near the entrance of Hunter Army Airfield at 5509 Montgomery Street.”

“We have a 4,400 square foot building in need of repairs. SA Recycling has stepped in with a donation that will help with the mechanical needs of the older building. We need everything from air conditioning, plumbing and electrical repairs so anything helps us and we have to salute our Tatemville friends for taking the time to help a neighbor in need,” shares Putney.

SA Recycling Savannah Staley General Manager Rebecca Seymour states, “When we opened last month, we stated that we were dedicated to being a strong community partner to local residents, nonprofits and businesses. A part of our company core values is to have strong relationships in the communities that we operate in and we could not think of a more worthy partnership than one with our veterans. Being able to support the men and women that have served our country is an honor.”
