City of Savannah Welcomes The Return of the 200 Club's Savannah Mile

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, April 26th, 2024

The City of Savannah is pleased to welcome back the 200 Club to historic downtown Savannah for the first time since 2019 for the 2024 Savanah Mile.

This highly anticipated race is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, May 18, as part of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Week. The course, beginning at the south end of Forsyth Park, will take participants down Drayton Street and finish up on Broughton Street.

“As a former law enforcement officer and as a current elected official, I have seen firsthand the great work that the 200 Club does for families of first responders,” Mayor Van R. Johnson, II said. “We are very excited to see the Savannah Mile back in downtown Savannah this year, where it belongs. Thank you to Mark Dana and all involved for all the great work you do.”

This iconic event is returning to the hostess city’s historic district after five years and is an important fundraiser for the 200 Club. This nonprofit organization provides support to the families of fallen first responders with significant financial assistance, as well as a fully paid college education.

The Savannah Mile features six heats for all ages and abilities, including family and age group divisions, followed by a “Memory Walk” for the families of fallen heroes to walk the mile in memory of, and to honor, their loved ones. The last run of the morning will be the “Heroes Heat,” which is open to all first responders and military in full gear or not. However, full 30-pound or over gear is required to compete for the “Full Gear All Out Flag!”

The races will conclude with an awards celebration in Johnson Square, where attendees will enjoy complimentary food and beverages while race times are announced. The City of Savannah will share more information on road closures and impact at a later date.
