The Current recently released its 2023 Impact Report, which highlights its key achievements and the journalistic impact it has had in the past year. 

“Since The Current launched in the fall of 2020, we have pursued one goal: publish trusted, independent accountability journalism that empowers Coastal Georgians to become more civically engaged,” said Editor in Chief Margaret Coker. “Three years later, more than 52,000 people see us as their essential source of local news and habitually read our stories.”
 
The Impact Report also includes insights into The Current’s ambitious plans to grow and fill more vacuums that readers say they want filled, including investing in tech and innovative publishing solutions, endowing the summer fellowship program, and hiring more accountability reporters.
