Thursday, April 11th, 2024

The Savannah VOICE Festival celebrates the beauty of the human voice through opera productions, recitals, concerts, musical theatre and song during its twelfth season, which will run from Aug. 8-18, 2024. Using the beautiful venues around the historic city, audiences will be able to enjoy their favorite type of music as the Festival celebrates the diversity of voices. This season’s theme is “Homecoming” and celebrates the Festival’s artists, audiences, and the city of Savannah.

Savannah OPERA will offer Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance,” as part of the Savannah VOICE Festival, on Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Yamacraw Performing Arts Center. This production is a community collaboration with returning Festival Artists, Milnes VOICE Studio singers, Chatham County School students and a Savannah OPERA orchestral ensemble, conducted by Jorge Parodi and directed by Chad Sonka.

The line-up of events will include Festival favorites such as “VOICES in Sacred Song” on Aug. 14, Saturday morning “Coffee Concerts,” and master classes with Maestro Sherrill Milnes, president and co-founder of the Sherrill Milnes VOICE Programs Maria Zouves, renowned stage director Fabrizio Melano along with psychotherapist Laura Melano Flanagan, and Yale Presidential scholar, pianist, and vocal coach Howard Watkins. The Festival will return to the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force on Aug. 10 for its “Homecoming” concert, and Asbury Memorial Church for the “Aria” and “Back to Broadway” concerts on Aug. 8 and Aug. 16.
